About

The 50th-anniversary program examines Kentucky’s environmental progress, current challenges, and future energy and environmental priorities. It includes “50 Years Later: What Kentucky Got Right, What We Got Wrong and What Comes Next,” with environmental leaders discussing policy lessons, field experience, successful solutions, and remaining issues; “Learning from the Past: Lessons in Environmental History”; and “Million Cans Recycling Contest,” covering student, school, scrapyard, and recycled-metals initiatives led by The Recycling Society and Metals Innovation Initiative-MI2. Additional sessions address the 811 Call Before You Dig program and protection of underground utilities and critical infrastructure; EEC Shark Bites, featuring tools and technologies from the Kentucky Division of Water, Office of Energy Policy, and Office of Kentucky Nature Preserves; and “Redevelopment is ‘Super Fun(d),’” focused on brownfield and Superfund cleanup, the Valley of the Drums, environmental restoration, economic growth, public health, and community redevelopment. The agenda also covers “Concrete Solutions 2.0: 3D Printing Now and in the Future,” including additive manufacturing, material waste reduction, construction efficiency, workforce challenges, and resilient, energy-efficient buildings; “Outdoor Recreation as a Catalyst for Economic Development and Environmental Improvements”; and “Nuclear: Then & Now,” examining changing perceptions of nuclear power, its role in the energy mix, and its potential contribution to reliable, low-carbon energy. Participants include public and private industry partners, government leaders, higher education professionals, attorneys, students, and members of the public.
