About

Theme: “Ore Deposits of the Great Basin – Key to America's Mineral Independence.” The symposium combines technical presentations, peer-reviewed papers and proceedings, professional and student posters, core shack exhibits, exhibitions, field trips, and short courses. Preliminary technical sessions cover Mesozoic geology and ore deposits of Nevada and the Great Basin; exploration technology; Paleocene to Late Eocene and Carlin-type deposits; copper; epithermal deposits in northern to central Nevada; carbonate replacement deposits; epithermal deposits in the central and southern Walker Lane; lithium; geothermal; and additional sessions still to be announced. Named session leaders include Dr. Marcus Johnston, Richard Bedell, Dr. Jessica Bogossian, Jon Powell, Dr. Peter Vikre, John Marma, Randy Vance, Dr. Peter Megaw, Bryan McFarlane, Alan Turner, Dr. Chris Henry, Dr. John Dilles, and Dr. James Faulds. Field trips address structural controls of hydrothermal gold systems; Walker Lane epithermal deposits; active geothermal systems and late Miocene to recent epithermal deposits; Yerington copper; Nevada lithium; Carlin-type deposits on the Independence Lineament; and tours in the Lovelock, Eureka, and Comstock Lode areas. Short-course topics include structural geology, geochemistry, geophysics, geometallurgy, handheld XRF, hyperspectral analysis, QGIS, epithermal-to-porphyry systems, and mineral resource estimation for public reporting under S-K 1300, NI 43-101, and JORC.
