About

The technical field trip examines mid-Miocene Northern Nevada Rift mafic magmatism, extension, and epithermal systems; older structures influencing the Battle Mountain-Eureka trend; and Carlin-type deposits. The program includes the regional framework of the Northern Nevada Rift, the Mule Canyon mine and its future plans, extensional basin architecture, growth faulting, syn-extensional volcanics and sediments, hydrothermal features, mine geology, structural controls of geothermal systems, the Beowawe geothermal system, down-section stratigraphy, growth faults, the western boundary of the Northern Nevada Rift, and boiling vein textures at White Canyon. The trip is led by Christine O’Neill, Justin Milliard, Jay Alcott, and Jim Faulds.
