About

Dr. Joseph Moore of the Energy & Geoscience Institute at the University of Utah will discuss “The Utah Frontier Observatory for Research in Geothermal Energy (FORGE): A Field Laboratory for Enhanced Geothermal System (EGS) Development.” The presentation covers field-scale development and testing of enhanced geothermal systems, lessons from earlier geothermal projects, stress-field analysis, seismic monitoring, well design, hydraulic stimulation, fiber-optic monitoring, fracture proppants, circulation testing, temperature declines, and water losses. The Utah FORGE project is described as a U.S. Department of Energy-funded field laboratory with injection and production wells in low-permeability granitic and metamorphic rocks. Dr. Moore is a Research Professor Emeritus in Civil and Environmental Engineering and an Adjunct Professor in Geology and Geophysics at the University of Utah.
