About
The presentation explains how distributed fiber optic sensing turns standard fiber-optic cable into a sensor for real-time temperature and acoustic measurements. Applications include monitoring dynamic flexible risers, in-well production, gas-lift valves, annuli liquid levels, and well interventions. The talk addresses operational insight, data logistics and visualization, safety, production, inspection and repair requirements, cost considerations, and challenges associated with DTS and DAS monitoring. Richard Tøndel has more than 25 years of industry experience and is responsible for Equinor’s R&D fiber-optic activities within subsurface. His background includes time-lapse seismic, permanent sensor systems, and in-well measurements.
